Manufacturing overview

In this article: what the Manufacturing module is for, how it fits with the rest of AssetBlaze, and the main things you can do with it.
What it's for
The Manufacturing module lets you turn raw or component inventory into finished inventory. If you build, assemble, kit, pack, or otherwise transform items in your stock, this is where that work is planned, tracked, and closed out.
It is built around two concepts:
Bill of Materials (BOM) — the recipe for a finished item.
Manufacturing Order (MO) — a specific run that produces a quantity of that finished item.
Where to find it
From the main navigation, open Manufacturing. You'll see two sub-sections:
Bill of Materials — manage your recipes.
Orders — manage production runs.
The end-to-end flow
Create a BOM for a finished item — list its components and how much of each you need.
Create a Manufacturing Order for that finished item — choose the quantity, location, and due date.
Allocate component stock so it is reserved for this run.
Start production. Record what you actually consume (and what gets wasted).
Complete the order. AssetBlaze deducts the components you used and adds the finished items to stock with a rolled-up cost.
What changes in your inventory
Components you use go down (by the actual quantity consumed).
The finished item goes up (by the quantity produced).
The finished item's cost reflects the real cost of the inputs used to make it.
Who can use it
Both Bills of Materials and Manufacturing Orders require the Manage items permission.
