Edit a BOM

Creating and editing a Bill of Materials
In this article: how to define the recipe for a finished item.
What a BOM is
A BOM is the recipe for one finished item (the parent item). It lists each component (child item), how much of that component you need to make one of the parent, and an optional wastage % for expected loss, offcuts, or scrap.
Create a BOM
Go to Manufacturing → Bill of Materials.
Select or open the parent item you want to build.
Click Add component and for each component:
Pick the component item.
Enter Quantity required (per one unit of the parent).
Optionally enter Wastage % (0–100).
Click Save BOM. All components are saved together and a new BOM version is recorded at the same time.
Open the parent item's BOM, make your changes (add, remove, or edit components) and Save BOM. Every save creates a new version, so you always have a history to fall back on.
Rules and guardrails
AssetBlaze will stop you from saving a BOM that breaks any of these rules:
No self-reference. An item can't be a component of itself.
No circular dependencies. If item A contains item B, then item B's BOM (or anything deeper in B's tree) can't contain item A.
All items must exist. Both the parent and every component must be real items in your inventory.
If any of these fail, the save is blocked with a message explaining what's wrong — no partial change is written.
Tips
Keep units consistent. If an item is tracked in metres, enter quantity required in metres.
Use wastage % rather than padding the quantity — it makes the recipe easier to read and the reason for the buffer explicit.
