Creating a Manufacturing Order

Last updated Apr 23, 2026

In this article: starting a new production run.

Before you start

  • The finished item should have a BOM set up (otherwise you can still create the order, but you'll need a BOM before you can allocate).

  • You need to know the quantity to build, the location where the build happens, and ideally a due date.

Create the order

  1. Go to Manufacturing → Orders and click Add Manufacturing Order.

  2. Fill in:

    • Output item — the finished item you are building.

    • Quantity to build.

    • Location — components will be reserved from this location, and the finished stock will be added here.

    • Due date (optional).

    • Scheduled start date (optional).

    • Priority — high, medium, or low (optional).

    • Title — a short human label, if useful (optional).

    • Customer and/or Linked sale order — if this run is being built for a specific customer order (optional).

    • Notes (optional).

  3. Save. The order is created in Draft status with an auto-generated number (e.g. MO-00042).

The BOM snapshot

When you create a new MO, AssetBlaze copies the parent item's current BOM into the order. From that moment, the order uses its own copy of the recipe. If someone later edits the master BOM, open orders are unaffected.

If the master BOM changes before you start the run and you want those changes to apply, use Reload BOM on the order (see Understanding MO statuses).

Can I change the MO number?

Yes — the field is editable when you create the order. If you leave it blank, AssetBlaze will assign the next number in sequence.
