BOM version history

Last updated Apr 23, 2026

In this article: viewing, comparing, labelling, and restoring previous BOMs.

Why BOMs are versioned

Every time you save a BOM, AssetBlaze freezes a snapshot of it — the components, quantities, wastage, who saved it, when, and an optional change note. This gives you a full audit trail of how your recipe has evolved.

In-progress Manufacturing Orders are not affected by edits to the master BOM — they already hold their own snapshot (see Creating a Manufacturing Order).

Open version history

From a parent item's BOM screen, open Version history. You'll see a list of versions, newest first, with who saved each one and any change note.

View a version

Click any version to see the exact set of components, quantities, and wastage at that point in time.

Compare two versions

Select any two versions and choose Compare. The diff shows:

  • Added — components that exist in the second version but not the first.

  • Removed — components that existed in the first but not the second.

  • Changed — components present in both but with a different quantity or wastage.

  • Unchanged — components that are identical.

Use this before you restore, to be sure you're rolling back what you think you are.

Label a version

Give a version a short label (up to 100 characters) — for example, "Production v2 – Q1 2026" — so you can find it later without scanning through change notes.

Restore a version

Open the version you want to revert to and click Restore.

  • The current BOM is replaced with the components from the chosen version.

  • A new version snapshot is also created, so the restore is itself recorded in history. The change note defaults to "Restored from version N" but you can override it.

Restoring does not touch any existing Manufacturing Orders — they continue with the BOM snapshot they already have.
